Severstal wins large-cap grand prix at IR awards

A number of companies scoop multiple awards at Moscow event

Severstal took home the grand prix for best overall investor relations by a large-cap company at the IR Magazine Russia & CIS Awards 2012 last week.

The event – run by IR magazine’s sister publication IR magazine CIS & Russia – saw power company RusHydro pick up the mid-cap grand prix award.

Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port (NCSP), the European port operator, walked away with the grand prix in the small-cap category.

NCSP and RusHydro were among a group of companies that won more than one award on the night, with Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) and Uralkali also picking up two gongs each at the awards event held in Moscow.

The strong performances of NCSP, MTS, RusHydro, Uralkali and Severstal also saw each of them named best company for IR in their respective industries.

The awards were based on the results of a survey of investors and analysts carried out by Thomson Reuters Extel in association with IR magazine Russia & CIS.

The survey also investigated the practices of Russian companies, finding that 68 percent carry out more than 250 one-to-one meetings a year, in comparison to 45 percent of European companies.

Russian companies are also leading in their yearly attendance of broker conferences, with 65 percent attending five or more. In Europe the percentage is slightly lower, at 54 percent.
