Looking at what's behind new professional organizations for IR practitioners

It may come as a surprise to some US practitioners that IR is still a new profession in much of the world. After all, General Electric is currently celebrating a half century of IR – in fact it's the company that coined the term. As for the National Investor Relations Institute in the US, it has attracted around 5,000 members since its creation in 1969. It's also standard practice in the UK for nearly every company to have an investor relations officer, and the Investor Relations Society
