Supply Chains report now available

IR Magazine has released a new report investigating the extent of supply-chain issues’ impact on IR. Findings are based on research from the IR Magazine Global Investor Survey conducted in Q4 2022 and the IR Magazine Global IR Survey conducted in Q4 2022 and Q1 2023.

This report examines how much attention investors pay to the supply chain and how this level of engagement has changed in recent years. It also looks at what information investors want from IR teams about the supply chain and how satisfied they are with the information they receive. Consideration is further given to the challenges IROs face in reporting on the supply chain.

Key findings

  • Compared with three years ago, *** of IROs have seen an increase in the frequency of their discussions with investors on supply-chain issues.
  • More than three quarters of investors have increased their level of discussions with companies about issues in their supply chain, compared with three years ago.
  • More than *** of IROs believe it is important for IR teams to be aware of supply-chain issues and readily able to discuss them, with 38 percent saying this is very important.
  • The number of investor respondents who think it’s important for IR teams to be able to discuss supply-chain issues is even greater, with 87 percent thinking it important to do so.
  • Only *** of investors are satisfied with the way companies report on supply-chain management.
  • Just under two thirds of investors consider supply-chain issues to be important (6+/10) when deciding to invest in a company, with a quarter viewing these issues as very important (8+/10).
  • Just under *** investors think supply-chain issues have become more important in the past three years.
  • A majority of investors consider ESG factors in a company’s supply chain to be important (6+/10), with just under three in 10 viewing them as very important (8+/10).
  • When asked which supply chain issues they most frequently discuss with investors, IR professionals most frequently cite cost-related issues, followed by the availability of components and materials.
