The US economic downturn results in IR consultants cut loose

Until quite recently, top IR professionals were being ardently wooed by Fortune 500 companies and big-name consulting agencies. But since the stock market tumbled, the once hotly-pursued now find themselves circulating resumes and networking like mad. Market downturns have historically hit the investor relations profession hard for two simple reasons: IR doesn't directly contribute to a company's bottom line and IR consultants' retainers are easily cancelled when top executives are running
