IR Magazine’s 2022 award winners in Canada, Europe and ESG revealed

Who won what at IR Magazine’s return to in-person awards in Toronto, London and New York?

Canadian Pacific Railway took home seven prizes from the IR Magazine Awards – Canada 2022, which returned to Toronto on May 25 after two years of running virtually.

The railroad company, which went into the event with nine nominations, claimed awards including best overall IR (large cap), best IR officer (large cap) for Maeghan Albiston and best IR during a corporate transaction.

Hut 8 Mining Corp also had a stellar night, picking up three awards: best retail IR strategy, best innovation in shareholder communications and best use of technology & social media for IR.

The Lion Electric Co secured two major awards: best overall IR (small cap) and best IR officer (small to mid-cap) for Isabelle Adjahi. Another double winner on the night was ARC Resources, which walked away with best ESG reporting (small to mid-cap) and best IR website.

The awards are split into two sections. The awards-by-research categories are decided by a survey of portfolio managers, sell-side analysts and buy-side analysts who cover domestic companies. This poll picks the winners for best overall IR, best IR officer, best IR by senior management and best in sector.

This poll picks the winners for best overall IR, best IR officer, best IR by senior management and best in sector.

The awards-by-nomination categories are open to entries from companies and their advisers and focus on different areas of IR practice, such as investor meetings, ESG reporting and digital communications. The winners are then selected by differing panels of judges.

Winners of the IR Magazine Awards – Europe 2022

Italian banking giant Intesa Sanpaolo took home three awards, including two of the most coveted trophies at the IR Magazine Awards – Europe 2022 on June 23: best overall investor relations in the large-cap category and the best investor relations officer (large-cap) gong for Marco Delfrate and Andrea Tamagnini. The firm also took the best-in-sector award in the financials category.

The winners' list at this year’s event was one of the most diverse for years, with many companies winning trophies for the first time. Some of the other big awards of the night saw Poland’s LPP take the gong for best overall IR in the mid-cap category, while Norway’s Norske Skog took the trophy among the small-cap contenders. Carl Vanden Bussche of Belgian company Barco won best investor relations officer in the small to mid-cap category.

Whittling down the competition, the judging panel chose winners across 15 different awards, including two new categories for 2022: best innovation in shareholder communications – won by Switzerland's Baloise Group – and best retail IR strategy, with the trophy taken by Valmet of Finland.

NRG Energy and JLL are among winners of the inaugural ESG Integration Awards

IR Magazine and online sister publication Corporate Secretary announced the winners of the inaugural ESG Integration Awards in New York on July 14.

The award for best board oversight of ESG went to NRG Energy. Amalgamated Financial Corp was celebrated in the best climate action award category. Gilead Sciences received the best diversity, equity & inclusion award, while the prize for best ESG communications went to Energy Recovery.

The ESG Integration Awards recognize outstanding achievements by governance and investor relations professionals in helping their companies oversee, communicate and engage with stakeholders on their companies’ ESG efforts.
