30 IR stars in 30 days: Magdalena Moll of OMV

To celebrate 30 years of IR Magazine, our series highlights the achievements of 30 IR stars from the last three decades

IR Magazine has a long history of honoring those men, women and companies around the world that excel at investor relations. In celebration of 30 years of IR Magazine, we selected 30 IR stars that have shone particularly brightly over the past three decades and will be posting one profile each day for 30 days, giving you the gift of an IR advent calendar.

Once the queen of investor relations, rumored to need an assistant to carry home her numerous trophies from the IR Magazine Awards – Europe, Magdalena Moll, who reigned for 13 years at BASF before moving to OMV in 2016, is now the company’s head of corporate affairs. So what does she miss most about IR? ‘The financially and strategically driven discussions with analysts and investors, the long-standing, trustful personal relationships with the financial market participants that I developed over the past 25 years, and winning many prizes at the IR Magazine Awards – a wonderful recognition of the work of my teams and me,’ Moll says.

Back in 2013, the year the firm was nominated for seven awards and took home an impressive five, Moll shared her thoughts on what made the team such a hit: the success, she said, was down to a combination of a strong group strategy that gives BASF a good foundation for communication, a very ambitious IR program and support from management as well as various departments within the firm – all of which ‘helps us communicate such a huge company,’ Moll said at the time.

After 13 years and many accolades, Moll left Ludwigshafen-headquartered BASF for OMV in 2016, before taking a role leading corporate affairs and corporate communications. But BASF remains an IR powerhouse and it should be noted that the chemicals giant continues to add to its trophy cabinet under the guidance of Dr Stefanie Wettberg, most recently taking home the awards for best ESG communications and best IR website at the IR Magazine Awards – Europe 2018.

Stay tuned for more IR stars this week and pick up a copy of the winter issue of IR Magazine to see the full list.
