TSMC back on top at the IR Magazine Awards – Greater China

Winners revealed at this year’s IR Magazine Awards – Greater China

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, better known as TSMC, wins seven trophies at this year’s IR Magazine Awards in Greater China, including the grand prix for best overall investor relations by a large-cap company.

This marks a return to form for Dr Elizabeth Sun and her team at TSMC. The company won the grand prix in 2011 then slipped to the runner-up spot for 2012 and 2013. Sun also won the award for best IRO this year, as she did in 2011 and 2013, along with the awards for best IR by a Taiwanese company, best corporate governance, best financial reporting, best sustainability practice and best IR by a technology company.

Last year’s grand prix winner, China Telecom, which also won in 2013, slips to ninth place this year but does win the award for best IR by a company in the telecoms sector. Other winners at the event, held at Bank of America’s Hong Kong offices on Thursday, are Bank of East Asia, China Everbright International, China Overseas Land & Investment, China Resources Enterprise, IGG, MediaTek, PetroChina, Sa Sa International, Sinopec and SOHO China.

The winners of the IR Magazine Awards – Greater China 2014 were identified solely by means of an independent survey of investors and analysts, all of whom are located in the region. More than 400 members of the Asian investment community either completed an online survey or spoke to researchers from Mary Maude Research in London, who undertook a telephone survey. The purpose of this was both to ascertain which companies and individuals are providing the best investor relations service and to discover their levels of satisfaction with the standard of investor relations more generally.

Companies eligible for the Greater China awards are those headquartered in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The survey also covered companies in South East Asia: Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand. These awards will be presented at the IR Magazine Awards – South East Asia at Singapore Exchange on Tuesday, December 9.

The full Asia Top 50 rankings will be announced when the IR Magazine Investor Perception Study – Asia 2014/2015 is published later this month. This annual report on IR in Asia documents all the awards and rankings this year from both the Greater China and the South East Asia events, as well as profiling top all-Asia companies and reporting extensive feedback from the Asian investment community.
