China Mobile triumphs at Greater China Awards

PetroChina, Ping An Insurance and TSMC also win big at IR magazine’s awards event in Hong Kong

China Mobile walked away with the grand prix for the best overall IR across China, Hong Kong and Taiwan at the IR Magazine Greater China Awards.

Around 250 people attended the gala event, which was held at the Conrad Hong Kong hotel on Thursday.

The event gave out awards for the best pan-China IR and also looked at the top performers in three individual markets: mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The nominees and winners were determined by an independent survey of analysts and investors conducted by Thomson Reuters Extel Surveys.

China Mobile also won the awards for best overall IR (Hong Kong) and best IR in the technology, media and telecommunications sector (pan-China).

Other big winners on the night included PetroChina, which picked up three awards: best IR by a state-owned enterprise (mainland China), best IR professional for Mao Zefeng (mainland China), and best IR in the energy and utilities sector (pan-China).

Ping An Insurance, meanwhile, took home the awards for best IR by a non-state-owned enterprise (mainland China), best website or webcasting (mainland China) and best IR by a CEO for Ma Mingzhe (mainland China).

Coming into the awards, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company had nine nominations, more than any other company, and ended up claiming awards in three categories: best overall IR (Taiwan), best IR professional for Elizabeth Sun (Taiwan) and best IR by a CFO for Lora Ho (Taiwan).

The awards event was preceded earlier in the day by a conference where IR professionals and expert speakers gathered for three sessions focusing on best practice investor relations.

Speakers at the conference included Li Hao, CFO at China Merchants Bank, and Baidu’s IR director Victor Tseng.

The event was hosted in association with BNY Mellon Depositary Receipts and the Hong Kong Investor Relations Association, and was co-sponsored by Citigate Dewe Rogerson, Extel Surveys, Hill & Knowlton, HSBC, Ipreo, irasia.com, NASDAQ OMX, PR Newswire Asia, Standard Chartered Equities and the Wall Street Journal Asia.
