American Airlines Group names IR head

US Airways IRO moves into top job at world’s largest airline

Daniel Cravens has been appointed to lead investor relations at American Airlines Group following the merger of AMR Corporation with US Airways. The Thunderbird School of Global Management MBA alumnus had been working in the latter firm’s IR team since 2005, most recently serving as managing director.

After graduating from Indiana University with a BA in economics, Cravens stated his career as an equity analyst for Dallas-based Stonegate Securities, later moving on to senior finance positions at a digital media company and a private equity firm. He joined US Airways in 2002 to serve as senior manager of financial planning and analysis.

The merger plan between US Airways and AMR, American Airline’s parent company then under chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, was announced in February last year. The transaction completed in December, with US Airways’ top executive team, including CEO Doug Parker, retaining most operational management positions and Tom Horton, American Airline’s CEO, staying on as chairman for one more year.

Both firms have relinquished their NYSE listing, with the newly formed, Fort Worth, Texas-headquartered group now trading on NASDAQ under the ticker AAL.

American Airlines Group is the world’s largest airline company, operating 6,700 daily flights, generating $40.4 bn in operating revenue and employing more than 100,000 people.
