Tesco promotes Chris Griffith

Griffith steps up to lead IR team as retail veteran Steve Webb moves on to new consulting role

Tesco’s former head of IR Steve Webb has announced he is stepping back to a part-time consulting role within the company.

Webb is well known in the retail industry. He has been with Tesco since 2004, and was promoted to the company’s retail council in 2007. Prior to this he spent 15 years at Safeway in various strategy and planning roles.

Investor relations director Chris Griffith will now be leading the IR team at the UK retailer.

After earning an MSc in applied biology from the University of Bath, Griffith started his career as a finance graduate for the BBC in 1997, moving on to be a management accountant at Channel Four Television.

He joined Tesco in 2001 as a business analyst and two years later was promoted to investor relations manager, staying on for the next four years.

After a short spell in the international corporate affairs department, he served as business development director from 2008 to 2011.

In 2011 Griffith rejoined the investor relations department as an IR director.
