IR papers: Airing your dirty laundry can irritate your investors
Investors punish firms that voluntarily disclose the existence of an SEC fraud investigation – even more so when those firms are exonerated, according to a new study. Sampling around 600 investigations, researchers find disclosers underperform other non-sanctioned firms that stay silent by almost 7 percent in the two months following the announcement.
