US awards nominee joins RealD

RealD chooses Erik Randerson as vice president of investor relations

Erik Randerson has left United Online to join RealD, the 3D technology company, as vice president of investor relations. He will report to RealD’s CFO and COO Drew Skarupa in his new role.

Randerson, who is an IR Magazine US Awards 2011 nominee in the ‘best investor relations officer - small cap’ category, joins an industry buoyed by the huge success of Avatar and many other 3D films in recent years and with considerable growth prospects.

But there are also many challenges and unknowns that Randerson expects to face as IRO at RealD. ‘RealD's revenues are influenced by the box office success of 3D films,’ he says.

‘One challenge faced by IR officers at many entertainment companies, including RealD, is figuring out what kind of financial guidance to give to Wall Street analysts in an environment where it is difficult to predict the box office success of individual 3D films.’

Yet the potential for future growth is remarkable and this is what attracted Randerson to RealD. ‘The new role presents an opportunity for me to grow professionally in a high growth company within an exciting industry,’ he says.

Randerson joins RealD following similar roles at United Online, Digital Insight and Tekelec. Prior to these, he was an adviser at investor relations consultancy Allen & Caron and investment research analyst at William O’Neil & Company.

Randerson is a member of the CFA Society of Los Angeles. He holds a BA in economics from Whittier College and an MBA from California State University, Long Beach.
