New head of IR at Aviva

Esson joins from Credit Suisse where he has been serving as director of insurance research for Europe and lead analyst covering UK and Nordic insurers

Credit Suisse equity analyst to replace Goldman Sachs alumnus at UK insurance major

Chris Esson has been appointed as Aviva’s new group IR director, succeeding Colin Simpson who has been promoted to CFO of Aviva Canada.

A graduate of the University of Queensland in Brisbane and a chartered accountant, Esson previously worked for KPMG and Macquarie. He joins from Credit Suisse where he has been serving as director of insurance research for Europe and lead analyst covering UK and Nordic insurers.

Simpson, who headed the FTSE 100 firm’s IR team for nearly three years, was also previously a sell-sider at Bear Sterns and Goldman Sachs focusing on the insurance sector.

‘Chris Esson brings a wealth of experience, insight and financial expertise to this vital role at Aviva, communicating our story and strategy to analysts and investors,’ says CFO Tom Stoddard in a release announcing the appointment. ‘We are very pleased to welcome Chris to Aviva.’
